Students of Modern College during the Special Camp held at Mezoma village on April 11.
Kohima, April 12 (MExN): The NSS Unit of Modern College, Piphema organised a three-day NSS Special Camp at Mezoma village from April 9 to 11 under the theme “Not Me, But You.”
A total of 29 volunteers along with two programme officers participated in the camp. The camp commenced on April 9 with the team departing from the college at noon and reaching Mezoma village by 1 pm. A briefing session was conducted upon arrival, outlining the code of conduct and objectives of the camp.
Following a tea break and room allocation, the volunteers undertook an evening village stroll to familiarise themselves with the local environment. The day concluded with dinner and a recreation session aimed at fostering camaraderie among participants.
On the second day, the volunteers carried out a cleanliness drive across key areas of the village, including morungs, the football ground, footpaths and drainage systems.
To promote sustainable waste management, dustbins were installed at strategic locations.
The volunteers also visited elderly residents, offering essential items and assisting with household tasks.
The evening concluded with a briefing session for the final day, followed by an interactive session during which sixth-semester volunteers shared their NSS experiences, inspiring fellow participants.
On the final day, the volunteers undertook a trekking expedition to Christ the Redeemer at Techakho, Mezoma, where they also conducted a cleanliness activity, reinforcing their commitment to environmental responsibility.
The NSS Special Camp concluded successfully, providing participants with meaningful experiences while strengthening teamwork and community engagement.
Organisers said the initiative contributed to community welfare and instilled a deeper sense of responsibility, cooperation and dedication to social service, in line with the spirit of “Not Me, But You.”
