MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 12 (MExN): Mokokchung district successfully concluded a 10-day Special Awareness Campaign on women’s empowerment and gender sensitization, aimed at raising awareness, building skills, and reinforcing women’s rights. The campaign, jointly organized by Sankalp-District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) and the District Administration, engaged diverse groups, including women, adolescent girls, Anganwadi workers, village council members, and female inmates.

The campaign featured sessions on menstrual hygiene, distribution of sanitary napkins and personal hygiene kits, and a dedicated awareness program for female prisoners at the District Jail, Mokokchung. Relief aid was also provided to women and girls affected by the recent landslide disaster.
A three-month tailoring training course commenced on September 8 to empower women and girls through skill development and economic independence. Capacity-building sessions on the Domestic Violence (DV) Act, POSH Act, and other women-centric legislations were organized for women police personnel in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).

On September 10, awareness sessions focused on women’s safety in workplaces, covering the SHe-Box and POSH Act. A one-day self-defense training for Presiding Officers of Internal Complaints Committees was conducted by an all-female team from the Mokokchung Taekwondo Association.
Health awareness was another key component of the campaign. On September 11, Dr Limanaro, DPO RMNCAH+N, led a session on common health issues, emphasizing anemia prevention and early detection, held at Fazl Ali College.

A major highlight was the exposure visit on September 12 for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Adolescent Girls Club of Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School to the Science Department of Nagaland University, Lumami. The visit provided hands-on learning experiences and inspired participants to pursue science, higher education, and career opportunities.
The 10-day campaign successfully underscored the importance of women’s empowerment, gender equality, and community awareness, fostering a collective commitment towards building an inclusive society.
