Mokokchung: farm schools open in Longjang, Tuli

Mokokchung, November 1 (MExN): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong block, Mokokchung inaugurated a farm school on integrated farming system at Tzulapang Longjang village on October 31.

 According to a report from ATMA Kobulong block, Noksangtemjen Aier is the farm school teacher. His farm reportedly spreads over 3 acres, where he grows arecanut, coffee, vegetables and citrus fruits.

At the event, Nuksungingla (ATM) highlighted the roles and functions of farm school and encouraged the participants to come forward and work together for increasing production and productivity in the village.

In line with the farm school, training on improved cultivation practices of winter crops was conducted with Renbemo ACTO (Horticulture), KVK as the resource person. He trained them on proper nursery raising and adoption of recommended package of practices. He also shared the importance of IFS, concept, approaches, components and different types of integrated farming systems that can be adopted.

Seed money of Rs 10,000 was provided to one FIG, the report stated. Input such as winter seeds, sprayer and implements were also distributed to the farmers. Altogether 28 farmers attended the programme.

Method demo conducted

The ATMA,Kobulong block  also conducted a method demonstration on nursery raising and management of vegetable crops on October 31 at Longjang village with Renbemo ACTO (Horticulture) KVK as the resource person.

He demonstrated on the nursery bed preparation, proper seed sowing method and management of the nurseries. The farmers were also briefed about raising healthy and disease-free seedlings for increasing production of vegetable crops.

Later, winter seeds were provided to the 25 farmers who participated in the programme.

Tuli:  Meanwhile, ATMA Tuli Block in Mokokchung district inaugurated a Farm School on Poultry Farming in Longli ward on October 30. 

A training and demonstration on management of poultry bird was imparted during the event, informed a press release by the ATMA Tuli Block. Altogether 18 farmers enrolled as students in the Farm School.

Meanwhile, a demonstration on line sowing of carrot was conducted in Tzudikong while the ATMA staff also provided seed money to Ludenla SHG in Tzudikong and encouraged the farmers to ‘continue their hard work and set examples for other farmers’. 

The resource persons were ATM Shilunokdang Jamir and Farm School Teacher, Temsulong.
