Mokokchung, April 18 (MExN): Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung under the initiative of the Department of History celebrated World Heritage Day on the theme ‘Connections, Routes and Networks’ on April 17.

Addressing the programme as the guest speaker, Limalenden, Editor, Mokokchung Times highlighted on how one should preserve our identity for the future and stated that it is not something that can be borrowed. Limalenden also mentioned that ‘he is proud of his heritage, his identity and culture as it is something he is passionate about.” The speaker encouraged everyone to keep “our connection with our village as 'We the Nagas' are identified by our village.”

To make the day, the students of History Department undertook a unique initiative to raise awareness about heritage preservation while promoting sustainability, stated a press release received here.

They collaborated to create traditional morungs using entirely recycled and waste materials, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and innovation in heritage conservation. Throughout the crafting process, students researched the historical significance of morungs in different cultures, deepening their understanding of cultural heritage and the importance of preserving indigenous traditions.

The completed morungs were displayed prominently on campus, accompanied by informative posters highlighting the significance of World Heritage Day and the role of heritage conservation in promoting sustainable development.
Altogether, nine morungs were being exhibited. 

Imkongrenla (BA 6th sem) was the host of the programme and Dr Imtiwati Jamir, Principal, JMC delivered the welcome message. A folk fusion performance was presented by the students and vote of thanks was delivered by Molongnenla Pongen, Asst Professor, Department of History, JMC.
