Mokokchung, May 7 (MExN): Mokokchung Town Baptist Arogo (MTBA) celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on May 5 and 6, 2012 under the theme ‘Proclaiming the good news.’ The platinum jubilee celebration concluded with a resolution to set up a college as a jubilee memorial. The present Jubilee Memorial School Mokokchung which was established as a memorial during its golden jubilee celebration is to be upgraded into a college.
The vision statement of this college says: “A Christian College based on Community of Grace that promotes quality teaching and learning and inspires personal transformation in the life of the students who will later become effective agents of change in the church and the society.” The mission statement of the college is: “To seek advancement in the work of God in the world through biblical centered education with high academic standard, scholarship and service that encourage students to develop Christian perspective of truth and life and impact the world for the Lord Jesus Christ.”
MTBA came into being for the glory of the kingdom of God with a few believers in Christ in the town, the seventy five years of its existence was culminated at the jubilee when thousands of Christians, many of whom are former members from different parts of the state attended the eventful two celebrations with great jubilation. The first day of the celebration also provided a rare opportunity to children and grand children to visit places such as Rito, Longkum, Impur, Mopungchuket etc.
Re. Dr. Mar Atsungchanger, Executive Secretary, ABAM, Rev. Dr. Anjo Keikung, General Secretary, NBCC and Reverend Lano Longchar ( Missionary) delivered thought provoking sermons, who called for a renew of its mission for Christ with clear vision. Community feast after devotional service on May 6, gospel music by individual singers and groups of yester years in the town added a new vigor to the celebration. Also a jubilee Souvenir revealing the church’s 75 year history was released during the service of May 5. The souvenir was released by I. Wabang.
The jubilee celebration was attended by a host of delegates from various churches in and around the town, besides Dimapur, Kohima and other places. Prominent personalities that attended the two day celebration included Dr. SC Jamir, Dr. Ngangshi K. Ao Minister PHED, DGP O. Alem, MLAs Nungsangyapng Aier and Sentichuba, and a host of dignitaries.
The joy of Jubilee was not left for the congregation alone as the feast was shared with the patient and attendant of Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital and the Jail inmates. A spectacular closing ceremony depicting the advent of Christianity and the vision of hope was displayed by Youth Department, Mokokchung Town Baptist Church.
