Mon district among 100 aspirational agricultural districts under PMDDKY

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): Mon district in Nagaland has been selected as one of 100 aspirational agricultural districts under the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), according to a communication from Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare & Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir.

The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet on July 16, will be implemented over six years starting from 2025-26, with the formal launch expected in October 2025.

Districts were identified based on three key indicators: low crop productivity, low cropping intensity, and low short-term credit disbursement. Mon district’s selection marks the inclusion of the constituency under the PMDDKY initiative.

PMDDKY aims to enhance agricultural productivity, increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable practices, improve post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, strengthen irrigation facilities, and facilitate both short-term and long-term credit access. The scheme will address gaps in selected districts by converging existing programs of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and allied ministries, in partnership with the states.

Committees will be formed at the district, state, and national levels for planning, implementation, and monitoring. The district committee, headed by the Collector, will prepare a district action plan in consultation with stakeholders and oversee implementation. Performance will be monitored via a dashboard with defined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

In his letter to MP Jamir, Chouhan expressed confidence that his leadership would ensure smooth implementation of the scheme in Mon district. Necessary instructions and operational guidelines are being issued separately to all state Chief Secretaries to facilitate execution.
