Mon, June 9 (MExN): Following report of assault on the administrator of a school in Mon on June 8, various organizations on Wednesday condemned the incident and appealed for justice.
ANPSA: The All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), Central Body voiced solidarity with the teaching community of Mon district and vehemently condemned the assault on the educator.
“In this stressful time when educators, parents and students are trying to make learning happen against all odds, it is shocking that such an atrocity should happen. Teachers cannot work competently under such hovering threats to life and liberty,” the ANPSA asserted.
It requested the District administration of all the districts in Nagaland to ensure the safety of teachers and preserve the sanctity and dignity of learning institutes.
CEDOK: The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) expressed shock at the ‘inhuman act of physical violence’ meted out to the Administrator of a school in Mon and stated that such acts are not acceptable in a civilized society.
“An assault on a simple and unassuming educationist” is not only an attack on a person, but on the very institution of education, in total disregard for the values of society. It has caused a non erasable stain on the educational history of Mon, it stated.
While appreciating the statements and actions by the Student Unions of Mon and Wakching and others, CEDOK condemned the incident and expressed hope that the concerned authorities would ensure justice and that no such incident occurs in the future.
KBBB: The Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) stated that it is appalled over the unfortunate incident that occurred on June 8.
“The KBBB, as a representative of all the Konyak Baptist Churches, strongly condemns the incident,” it stated and denounced the use of violence, harassment, demand by force, assault on individual or institution and any sort of anti-social elements that are not acceptable to peaceful coexistence.
It is a disgraceful state of affairs that despite the sacrifices made by the educator and the school for the Konyak community, some are still resorting to unlawful activities, the KBBB opined. In this regard, it appealed all concerned to discourage such kind of behaviour and activities in the society.
MTSU: The Mon Town Students' Union (MTSU) condemned the assault on the administrator and appealed to the law enforcing/ legal authority to investigate and give the culprit a befitting punishment as per the law. The Students' Union also cautioned all individuals and groups that any kind of inhuman/illegal act within its jurisdiction will not be tolerated.
