Mon sexual assault case: Several orgs appeal for justice

Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): The Chinglong Union Aboi Town (CUAT) has condemned the alleged sexual assault on a minor girl by six youths on June 20. The union has appealed to the concerned authorities to deliver timely justice and reward stringent punishment to the culprits as per the relevant law of the land.

CUAT president, H Achai Konyak and general secretary, Y Tapong Konyak in a press release said that “such lunatic doing in this civilized society has tarnished the good image of Konyak and the Nagas.” It stated that such violence and crime against women are not only an issue of womenfolk but an infringement and violation of human rights.

In another joint statement, Chaoha Youth Organization (CYO), Chaoha Citizens’ Union (CCU) and Chaoha Union Aboi (CUA) have also vehemently condemned the incident and appealed the law enforcing agency to reward the culprits with befitting punishment with non-bailable sentence.

The three bodies termed the act as heinous and inhumane and stated that violence against women is a human rights issue as “women should be able to live safely, feel protected and grow up free of violence.”

Further, CYO, CCU and CUA stated that “they will no longer condone such inhuman crime committed upon its fellow sister and shall resort to its own course of action in the event of justice not being delivered to the victim.”

Therefore, the unions appealed to the concerned authority to investigate into the matter and ensure that the accused are brought to book under the stringent penal provisions and secure the severest punishment to deter such offence in the future.
