Mon: Village heads cautioned against taking law into own hands

Mon, August 21 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mon, Thavaseelan K issued a circular on Saturday cautioning village heads against taking law into their own hands.

The DC stated that, to the dismay of the authority, many villagers with the active participation of the appointed Village heads are found to be taking law in their hands, leading to loss of property and creating apprehensions and mistrust in the society.

The DC’s circular stated that the government has appointed GBs, Chairmen, VDB Secretaries and VGs in different villages across the district as the custodial heads of the village and that they are expected to maintain law and order within their respective villages and also preserve the cordial relationship with their neighboring villages, thereby creating an atmosphere of peaceful co-existence within the district.

“Also, as the custodial heads, they should resolve all issues in a civilized manner or report to the District authorities for amicable solutions on all issues, so that peace prevails in the locality,” the DC stated.

In this regard, the DC has warned villages that all developmental works, assistance (both CSS and State Schemes) will be stopped indefinitely, if any individuals or groups create problem by taking law in their hands which is detrimental to peace and tranquility in the society.

Further, the Village Councils and Village Development Boards of erring villages will stand dissolved immediately, the circular added.
