Mon’s Edu situation continue to cry

Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): According to a former students’ leader, “over 1000” HSLC-passed students in Mon district have no college or higher secondary schools to study in. The situation invariably led to serious consideration in a meeting of Wonkhao College Advisory Board on May 17.  “Wonkhao College and government high school has refused admission for want of lectures and classrooms. This was explained by the principal, Wonkhao College in the meeting, as his inability to admit students due to shortage of lecturers,” said Tingia Konyak, former President of Konyak Students’ Union. The board decided to urge the government to appoint lectures and has assigned the Konyak Union to pursue the resolution to “bring back the results within two weeks time.” In the meantime, the board has advised the principal of Wonkhao College to go ahead with admitting students.
There are three government higher secondary schools in Mon district, the former KSU leader stated. “Mon HSS do not have room to accommodate students. Tizit, Aboi Govt Higher Secondary Schools are upgraded only in paper. Nothing has been done. Even lecturers have not been provided. Therefore, the Board meeting has also assigned the Konyak Union to urge the state government to appoint lecturers and press for extension of classrooms.” He added that the negligence in the education infrastructure in the district “has been seriously felt by the board members and have thus expressed their displeasure.”
