Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person and Rs 74,000 to each injured person following the landslide in Mon town on Sunday, as the Nagaland Government announced relief measures for those affected by incessant rainfall across the State.
The landslide claimed at least 8 lives and caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure amid incessant rainfall across parts of the State.
According to a government statement, the landslide occurred at around 6:30 am on July 19.
The State Government expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The government said affected families across the impacted districts would also be provided relief assistance, including food, temporary shelter, essential commodities and other eligible support.
It stated that the situation arising from the ongoing extreme weather conditions across several parts of Nagaland is being closely monitored.
As per the State DIPR, apart from Mon district, Tuli subdivision in Mokokchung district and other areas have been affected by landslides, flash floods and road blockages, as well as damage to public infrastructure and private property.
The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), district administrations, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland Police and other line departments are carrying out search and rescue operations, evacuating vulnerable residents, restoring essential services and providing immediate relief to those affected.
All concerned departments have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure inter-departmental coordination for timely response, restoration of connectivity and rehabilitation of affected communities. The government said continuous assessment of the situation is underway and additional assistance would be mobilised wherever required.
The public has also been advised to remain vigilant and avoid vulnerable slopes, riverbanks and landslide-prone areas. People have been urged to follow advisories issued by the NSDMA, Home Department and district administrations, cooperate with emergency response agencies, rely on official sources of information and refrain from circulating unverified reports or rumours.
As reported earlier by The Morung Express, apart from the landslide, at least four persons are feared missing following flash floods in Naganimora.
Details concerning the rescue remains unconfirmed till the filing of this report.
Road connectivity to Shamator district was also disrupted by landslides, while similar incidents were reported from various locations across the State.
