A massive landslide triggered by continuous rainfall has severely affected the area surrounding a residential house at Etsuchukha Colony in Wokha, putting the property at risk and prompting the colony council to advise the family to evacuate as a precautionary measure.
Etsuchukha Colony Chairman Yilobemo Humtsoe said the landslide has affected the area around the house belonging to Libenthung and Woremo. Although the house has not yet sustained structural damage, the surrounding land has been extensively eroded, posing a serious threat to the property.
Humtsoe urged the concerned authorities to immediately inspect the site and undertake necessary mitigation measures to prevent the situation from worsening. He warned that without timely intervention, continued rainfall could trigger further slope failure, resulting in severe damage to the house and nearby properties.
He said the affected family is facing considerable hardship due to the unstable ground conditions. In view of the potential danger, the colony council has advised the family to temporarily vacate the house until the area is declared safe.
The colony council appealed to the concerned authorities to take urgent measures to stabilise the affected slope and safeguard lives and property.
