Dimapur, October 27 (MExN): Several organisations have condemned the alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Kacharigaon area of Dimapur on October 22.
SVC: Senjum Village Council, Senjum youth organisation, students’ union and Senjum village women association on Tuesday, issued a statement strongly condemning the incident and said that such an evil act was uncalled for in the society.
The organisations urged the competent authority to leave no stone unturned and deal with the criminals according to the law, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family.
LWS: The school authority of Liz Woodland School, Dimapur, strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate justice.
It also appreciated the speedy arrest by the police and expressed hope for earliest delivery of justice for the victim and her family while conveying its heartfelt condolence.
KPSU: Shocked and dismayed by the ‘barbaric and abhorrent’ act, the Kacharigaon Phevima Students’ Union (KPSU) said that such an odious and horrific act of crime has no place in a civilised society. Expressing its solidarity with the victim’s family, it made a fervent appeal to the law enforcement agencies to expeditiously conduct the investigation and the trial, and bring the perpetrator to justice.
NTCA: The Nagaland Theological College Association (NTCA) also issued a statement on Tuesday extending condolences to the bereaved family.
“As the apex body of Nagaland theological fraternity, NTCA would like to appeal the Naga society to reflect on what is happening in our Motherland instead of pointing fingers at anyone,” it said, adding that the incident of October 22 perhaps is just the tip of the iceberg mirroring our society.
NTCA also understands that in our Naga context of shame and honor, the parents of the accused might be experiencing the harsh reality of life, it said, while reaching out to them.
While it said that the rape case has been ‘sensationalized’ because the name of the accused was prefixed with words ‘theological student,’ the NTCA added that it would not like to wash its hands by stating that “Yilobemo was not a student or alumnus of any of the NTCA affiliated colleges (which is the fact).”
