Dimapur, September 24 (MExN): Probably for the first time in Nagaland, a workshop on ‘Positive Living’ organized by the Morung Foundation was held in Dimapur today. The workshop was conducted by, Mumbai based Psychiatrist Dr. Nirmala Rao a consultant therapist who has conducted a number of of behavioral training for big business organisations. Dr. Rao is in Nagaland for the first time with her team of psychologists and counselors. The workshop was attended by people from all walks of life like doctors, teachers, journalists, church leaders, social workers, etc.
The workshop covered issues like stress, stress related diseases like hypertension and diabetes, managing emotions, conflicts and issues related to parent child relationships. Dr. Rao carried out a series of interactions with the participants; asking them questions about how they manage stress, conflict, relationships, etc. She talked about people getting caught between external demands and feelings pushed by circumstances. She said each person has the capacity to lead their own life. Enhancing that capacity requires commitment, order, understanding, responsibility, adaptability, gain and experience, she mentioned. She also said that defining one’s vision, staying committed, increasing self awareness, strengthening relationships, overcoming barriers, developing creativity and leveraging resource are ways to take control over one’s life. Participants were also made to interact with one another and group discussions were held.
Dr. Rao has been practicing psychiatrist for 20 years. She has a private clinic ‘AAVISHKAR’ in Mumbai and ‘reaching out to people with human touch’ is Dr. Rao’s mission. Dr. Rao pioneers in providing a methodology that provides comprehensive treatment involving intensive counseling and psychotherapy along with medication.
