Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Imkong L Imchen today maintained that most of the reported incidents of religious atrocities across the country were “not to the fact but rather manufactured elsewhere.”

“Over the years, especially during the last 5 to 6 years, we are going through the incidents of religious atrocities across the country. But when we check back the fact of the situation, most of these incidents were not to the fact but rather manufactured elsewhere,” he said, addressing a press conference here at his official residence in Kohima.

Admitting that there are some instances of such incidents across the nation, he said, “But not necessarily all these newspapers and media reports are factual.” Stating that the people of Nagaland and even the church organisation started targeting the BJP party, Imchen said that he feel somewhat uncomfortable as some of the opinions do not confirm to reality.

On being asked to substantiate his assertion that ‘all religious atrocities were not to the fact,’ he retorted, “Have you come across any FIR filed by Congress against such atrocities?”

“Unless FIR is lodged, you cannot take it as solid proof and evidence,” he held.

Slams Congress for past atrocities, LGBTQIA+ issues

Imchen, who is also Advisor For Soil & Water Conservation and IPR, argued that all the atrocities committed on the Naga people during 50’s and 60’s and even to the 70’s were done squarely by Congress government/Congress party.
The Congress should seek forgiveness from the Naga people for the atrocities committed against the Naga people for more than two decades, he maintained.

He further claimed that in the past the churches in Nagaland were turned into “Military Concentration camps where all the “atrocities and criminal actions were committed against the Naga populace.”

He alleged that many Naga people were tortured during Naga freedom movement.

Imchen also told the press conference that with the patronage and indulgence of Government of India, then under Congress, the 16 Point Memorandum was also drafted

Even at the time of the statehood, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru thought that Naga freedom movement was suppressed “even though it could not be suppressed,” he added.

Meanwhile, he maintained that its manifesto, the Congress  want to amend suitably Article 15 and 16 of the Constitution of India and “approve the activities of LGBTQIA+.”

Accordingly, he alleged that after “committing unforgettable atrocities and criminal activities,” the Congress want to approve LGBTQIA+ activities, which is against the Holy Bible,” he said.

Queried on the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Free Movement Regime (FMR) during his visit to Manipur on Monday, Imchen said, “I am in total support of the scraping of FMR and construction of bordering fencing. Without any reservation, I have my 100% support. If Union Government does it, I will be very happy.”

On PDA consensus candidate
He said BJP is being attacked from various quarters in this parliamentary election but noted that as far as Nagaland is concerned, the part  is not contesting but Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate, who happen to be PDA consensus candidate.

Before I join the party, he said, the BJP and NDPP being a pre-poll alliance, they had set up S Phangnon Konyak as the consensus candidate from BJP to represent Naga people in Rajya Sabha.

“This time, it is the turn of NDPP to set up their candidate for the Lok Sabha. Among themselves, they have chosen Dr Chumben Murry as their official candidate,” he said.

The BJP had fully accepted and endorsed their (NDPP) decision, Imchen said.

The Chief Minister under his leadership have taken the opinion of all the 60 MLAs of the House, he said adding that the political parties as well as individual capacity have fully approved and endorsed his candidature.
Narendra Modi will become Prime Minister again and Dr Murry will represent Naga people in the parliament, he asserted.
