Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, marked its Golden Jubilee today with a grand celebration, graced by Temjen Imna Along, Minister for Tourism & Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, as the special guest, along with Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture as the special invitee and Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA, serving as the Chief Patron.

In his address, Imna Along commended the efforts of past leaders, teachers, and staff for their dedication in shaping the college over the last five decades. He congratulated the Alumni Association and landowners for their continued support, urging them to keep contributing to the institution’s growth. Along also called for the introduction of a Science stream at the college, noting that despite its 50-year history, Mt. Tiyi College has, until now, only offered Arts courses.

He highlighted the importance of unity, growth, and development, stressing that true knowledge is the key to societal transformation. Along acknowledged the college's early challenges and celebrated the remarkable individuals it has produced in various fields. Looking ahead, he encouraged all stakeholders to come together to ensure that the college is well-prepared for its 100th anniversary.

Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture, in his speech shared his personal connection to the college, recounting his early days as a student when the institution began its journey in a modest classroom. He recalled how the College started its operations with humble beginnings, occupying a small plot of land, and how it has since grown into a beacon of education in the region.

 Yanthan, speaking with deep emotion, expressed his pride in witnessing the college’s growth into a significant institution.

"This afternoon holds a special place in my heart," said Yanthan. "I remember when this college first began, and now, 50 years later, it has grown into a towering institution of education and empowerment. It’s an honour to be part of this celebration."
Reflecting on the college’s legacy, Yanthan emphasised the importance of remembering the visionaries and leaders who established the college amidst challenging times. Many of these early pioneers, who dedicated their lives to the development of Mount Tiyi College, are no longer with us, but their contributions have left an enduring legacy.

He also acknowledged that despite facing many challenges, these educators have played an essential role in the success of the College.

As part of his address, Yanthan outlined a vision for the future of the College, calling for continued academic excellence, infrastructure development, and a stronger engagement with the community. "I envision Mount Tiyi College continuing to grow by offering cutting-edge programs and embracing modern teaching methodologies," he said. "We also need to enhance the infrastructure, including smart classrooms and better facilities for staff and students."

He further highlighted the importance of community involvement, encouraging the College to remain deeply rooted in its local context while addressing societal challenges. "This institution has always been closely connected to its community, and it’s crucial that it continues to uplift lives and foster collaboration with stakeholders," he remarked. Yanthan also stressed the need for global collaboration, urging the college to build partnerships with international institutions to broaden the horizons of students and faculty alike. In closing, Yanthan addressed the students of the College, urging them to take pride in the legacy of those who came before them. "You stand on the shoulders of giants," he said. "Your hard work and dedication will shape not only your future but also the future of society. Remember, education is not just a path to personal success but a tool to serve and uplift the community."

C. Hachio Patton, PRO to Hon'ble Dy. CM (Home & Border Affairs) Govt. of Nagaland expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the programme committee for the opportunity to speak on behalf of the alumni community. He reflected on the college's humble beginnings and its significant role in providing higher education to the region’s youth. He recalled that the college, initially established with only three university-level courses. He highlighted the challenges faced in the early days, when the college operated out of a modest building, but eventually expanded to a modern campus, aided by the vision and perseverance of both local leaders and the government. Hachio acknowledged the contributions of past and present staff, whose dedication has helped the institution thrive. He noted that while the college has made significant strides, there is still a need for further infrastructure improvements to meet the growing demands of quality education.

Hachio made a call for continued community support, urging stakeholders to take an active role in the college's future development. He also recognised the invaluable role of alumni in sustaining the college’s legacy, particularly through fundraising efforts and volunteer work.

The occasion was also an opportunity to celebrate the college’s accomplishments, particularly in its mission to empower and inspire young minds. Hachio concluded by encouraging everyone to contribute to the ongoing success of the College, reinforcing that it is not only a government institution but also a vital community resource. He extended his deepest thanks to all who made the event possible and wished for continued progress and growth as the college enters its next phase.

The event also saw Jubilee greetings from former principals Chubatola Longkume and Dr. K. C. Murry, as well as V. Lovitoly Sema, NCS Jt. Secretary, H&TE and Ex-officio Director, Higher Education. Hachio Patton, PRO to the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, spoke on behalf of the alumni.

A significant highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Jubilee Memorial Park and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA. The Golden Jubilee Monument was unveiled by Temjen Imna Along, and Mhathung Yanthan revealed a special souvenir and memento during the celebrations.

The programme was attended by alumni, faculty, students, and local community members, all of whom came together to celebrate the remarkable 50-year journey of Mt. Tiyi College and its bright future.
