Phek, June 24 (MExN): Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) S Supongmeren Jamir on June 24 attended a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Phek district.
Addressing the meeting, Jamir urged DISHA members to proactively sensitise the public so that more people could benefit from various government schemes.
Noting that government employment opportunities were becoming limited, he encouraged people to explore entrepreneurship and other livelihood avenues.
Highlighting the district's potential, he said Phek was well-suited for farming and animal husbandry owing to its vast land resources.
Jamir expressed concern that no new beneficiaries had been added under the old-age pension scheme since 2017 and assured the gathering that he would take up the matter with the concerned ministry.
He also stressed the need for timely disbursement of victim compensation and called for the elimination of unnecessary delays in the process.
The MP informed the meeting about initiatives aimed at improving telecommunication connectivity in different parts of the district.
Advisor for CAWD Kudecho Khamo thanked Jamir on behalf of the Chakhesang community for his contributions to the development of the state. He urged all departments and stakeholders to sincerely implement development projects and welfare schemes for the benefit of the people.
Khamo also highlighted the importance of maintaining accurate data on elderly persons, widows and persons with disabilities (PwDs) to enable the government to effectively pursue welfare-related matters with the concerned departments and ministries.
State-level DISHA members Medokul Sophie and Toshipokba Longkumar also attended the meeting.
During the programme, presentations were made by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services through the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), the District Education Office (DEO) Phek, the Social Welfare Department through the District Welfare Officer (DWO), and SANKALP–District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti.
Deputy Commissioner of Phek and Member Secretary of DISHA Rhousietho Nyuthe highlighted the increase in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases in the district, attributing the rise to improved awareness and reporting resulting from sustained sensitisation efforts.
Following the meeting, Jamir, Khamo, DISHA committee members and heads of offices participated in a tree plantation drive.
