MP Supongmeren urges PM to declare emergency in Nagaland

Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): Nagaland MP S Supongmeren Jamir has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare an emergency in the state and release immediate relief funds, as monsoon fury continues to wreak havoc across the region, particularly in Mon and Mokokchung districts.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Jamir highlighted the loss of human lives, destruction of houses, and washing away of domestic animals, while noting that road networks in almost all districts have been severely damaged or completely washed out.

“There is no means of communication and supplies of basic daily needs,” Jamir said, adding that the Army has been providing helicopter services to the public.

Jamir also pointed out that students in some urban and rural interior areas have been cut off from communication and are facing hardship.

“I request your esteemed authority to kindly look into the seriousness of what the state is facing and managing. Grateful if your kind authority can declare emergency for immediate relief services to the state of Nagaland,” he wrote.
