MR Vaccination Campaign conducted at Agape School

As part of the ongoing campaign to eradicate Measles & Rubella (MR) by 2020 in India, MR Vaccination Awareness Campaign was conducted at Agape School, Kiphire with Dr Holiba Anar, District Hospital Kiphire (DHK) as the resource person.  

Dr Holiba stated that the primary purpose of the Measles-Rubella Campaign was to protect children and eliminate transmission of Measles and Rubella in the community by vaccinating children between 9 month to 15 years with MR Vaccine.  

“Measles-Rubella are highly contagious viral disease that are spread by contacting an infected person through coughing and sneezing. Measles infection often leads to serious consequences that includes blindness, encephalitis, severe diarrhoea and severe respiratory such as pneumonia,” he added. Urging the parents to get their children vaccinated he assured that the “vaccine is completely safe and also cited that around 150 countries are currently using MR Vaccine which have proven to be highly safe and effective.”  

The programme was attended by parents and teachers.  

Meanwhile Measles-Rubella vaccination will commence in first week of October. Vaccination will be carried out in schools, health sub-centers and Angawandi centers.
