Mughaho Awomi wins 4th All Nagaland Open Chess Championship

Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): Mughaho Awomi emerged as champion of the 4th All Nagaland Open Chess Championship held at Tourist Lodge Dimapur which concluded on Friday.

Organized by the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) under the aegis of Nagaland Chess Association (NCA), the championship was held from March 24 to 26.

A ‘very tactical and nail biting’ contest among the competitors was witnessed from day 1 till the final round of the championship.

On the final day, Mughaho Awomi won in the open category and was awarded with cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a trophy.

In the U-18 category, Muzivolu Veswu emerged as the winner and walked away with Rs 8000 and a trophy.

Manas won in the U-14 category and was awarded with Rs 8000 and a trophy.

Shabnam Singh was named the best female player and won Rs 2000 while the Best 60 & above title went to 68-year-old S I Toshi who won Rs 2000.

The youngest player in the championship was 7-year-old H Kiba.

As per a press release from the organizers, the champion and winners in different categories were felicitated in the closing programme on the concluding day.

The programme was chaired by Bovito Yeptho and the invocation was led by Shikiye Jakhalu. Shiniho Inakhe delivered the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, SCAN informed that its new team of office bearers for the tenure 2021-24 has been elected with Shiniho Inakhe as president and Mughato Kibami as General Secretary.
