A Multi Media exhibition on Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav was inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at the World War II Museum campus, Kisama on December 1.
The 10-day event is being organised by the Central Bureau of Communication, Field Office Kohima, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. The exhibition will showcase the important events and personalities of India’s freedom struggle and also the Central Government’s eight years of service, good governance and welfare of poor.
In his welcome address, P Sophie, IIS, Central Bureau of Communication, Kohima stated that a key initiative of the celebration is to sensitise the younger generation about the significance of India’s freedom struggle and the sacrifices made by many.
While India struggled for over two centuries for her freedom where lakh of people sacrificed their lives for India’s future, Sophie was also of the view that in today’s fast-moving world, the youth hardly find time for remembrance of India’s rich heritage and past.
“While the nation celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, it is most crucial to reach out to the younger generation and let them know about our nation’s rich history. A history with a unique narrative wherein the fight against colonial rule is not marred by violence. Rather, a narrative that is full of stories of valour, bravery, Satyagraha, dedication, and sacrifice across the length and breadth of the subcontinent. These stories compose the rich Indian cultural heritage and traditions,” stated Sophie.
The exhibition is an attempt to recall and remember forgotten heroes of our freedom struggle, according to Sophie, many of whom might be renowned yet unknown to the new generation, and to further serve as a medium of inspiration and encouragement for the coming generations.
“As we enjoy the fruits of our independence, we must also understand that this vision of freedom is fully realized only when we achieve the goals and promises we have set for ourselves in the Constitution. We must objectively evaluate our journey so far and set sights on new frontiers,” added Sophie.
The Multi Media exhibition will display photographs in both standard and digital mediums. The stall will also introduce an online educational game: Azadi quest, a patriotic puzzle game which tells the story of India’s freedom Struggle, highlighting key milestones and heroes whereby players are presented with the colourful journey of India’s independence from 1857 to 1947.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
The official journey of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on March 12, 2021 which started a 75 week countdown to our 75th anniversary of Independence and will end post a year on August 15, 2023.
