Multi-vehicle collision on deadly 4-lane claims 1

DIMAPUR, MARCH 25 (MExN): A fatal multiple-vehicle collision on the deadly Dimapur-Chümoukedima stretch of NH 29 claimed another life. The pileup occurred at 5th Mile around 1:10 am on March 25. It involved 4 vehicles— a Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Thar, scooty, Maruti Omni, and a motorcycle.  

According to the police, the Bolero hit the Thar from behind fatally wounding the driver of the Thar, which was said to have been stationary at the time the collision occurred. The impact shoved the Thar to the right, to knock down a scooty. 

The driver of the Thar was found lying on the spot by the police with serious injuries. He was rushed to the CIHSR but succumbed to his injuries on the way. The deceased victim was identified N William Koso (44 years), a well-known football coach of the state. 

Meanwhile, the Maruti Omni, which was proceeding towards Chümoukedima side, stopped at the site due to the resultant road obstruction. “Another Motor Bike came and hit the stationary Omni Van from behind, resulting the bike rider sustaining grievous injury and presently undergoing medical treatment at a Hospital in Dimapur,” the report from the police said.

All the vehicles involved in the pileup were taken to the Traffic Control, Chümoukedima, and further investigation was on. A separate case was registered at the Diphupar Police Station in connection to the death. 

The police further informed that the driver of a vehicle, involved in a hit and run case, dating to March 14, in Piphema was arrested on March 22 from Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong, Assam. The accused was identified as Devinder Singh (23 years). The vehicle he was driving was also impounded by the police.
