My understanding of PAC

It is shocking to read the statement issued by WC NNPG’s against the PAC, NCD.  It is more shocking to even note that the Convenor and co-convenor have been particularly targeted individually.

As far as I remember, the PAC have undertaken “operation check gate” to fight illegal collection of money.  And this drive has instilled confidence on public that all is not lost and there are leaders to fight social evils to make our society a better place to live in!

It is very unfortunate that the WC NNPGs have openly come out to state that the activities taken by PAC have tightened the screws against them, cutting off day-to-day supply line that threatened the survival of the cadres! If they really mean what they have stated, all illegal collection going on is under their patronage, which I don't think they will agree to! The PAC has taken the job the state government should do! It was the failure of the state machinery that necessitated the NCD to form this Committee to tackle the rampant illegal collection of money!

I don't think the PAC leaders have taken this responsibility as they have no other job to do! It is crystal clear that the involvement of all the Tribal Hohos in the operation check gate was not done with ulterior motives but to root out unwanted, illegal collection going on in the check gates. The public is grateful to the PAC, that exposed the ills of state government departments such as DMC, Veterinary, Forest, Geology & Mining, etc and the District administration have started looking into these matters.

I, as a regular subscriber and  reader of three English dailies in Nagaland, have taken the pain to review the PAC statements and press releases and found not one where the PAC have prohibited legal tax collection by national workers of any group. The PAC which represents the public has every right to prohibit any group if it is illegally collecting money!  There is no reason or sanity to allow/permit the underground groups to collect any illegal amount of money on any item just because they are national workers. However, if the national workers assume they have the authority to do so they are totally wrong. The public/ stake holders for whom the fight is going on cannot be treated as slaves. We have crossed the period of slavery to modernity. What are the national workers if the public is not in their favour?  The WC should seriously ponder on this.

The turn of events such as this statement at this present juncture can be interpreted differently.  The WC has not raised this issue when PAC was conducting the checks, nor was it raised immediately after the operation either. Months have passed and peace talk (31st October 2019) for two groups to come on board achieved... than what? What does the WC mean? Are they unable to stand the pressure of "old habits die hard" or have they taken the public to ransom to let GoI speed up the deal of economic packages.

It is up to the reader to conclude but I for one condemn WC for the unreasonable statement of lowering Naga issue of survival to the level of a committee and seriously pity the level of wisdom they possess.  God grant us wisdom and understanding. Let peace and justice reign.
