The Golden Olympic dream has come true again for Nagas everywhere. Naga lady archer Chekrovulo Swuro who is part of the Indian Women Archery team has qualified to participate in the London Olympic Games 2012. Coincidentally, the last time a Naga took part in the Olympics was at London, where the legendry Dr. T. Ao captained the Indian football team in 1948. So it is after 64 years, a second Naga sportsperson is all set to represent India at the Olympics.

No amount of congratulatory words seems to faze our young lady archer. Chekrovulo is more than focused on her preparation for the London Olympics. Interacting with The Morung Express from Kolkata, fresh from training at Gangtok, Cherovulo expressed happiness on her qualifying for the Olympics. “I am happy…we all have a dream and mine is about to happen,” she said. With the Olympics starting from July 27, Cherovulo admits that she cannot wait.

The Morung Express quizzed Chekrovulu on the chance of winning a medal and she confidently said, “Preparations have been going on well, and yes we may have a good chance to win.  I don’t know which color it is…Gold, Silver, or Bronze, but we have we have hopes to win one atleast.”

Serving as an inspiration to sportspersons, youth and Nagas everywhere, Chekrovulo has this to share: “It does not matter if you are man or woman, just give your whole heart and success will surely follow”. Reflecting on her achievements and her journey thus far, Chekrovulu considers herself lucky and feels that her participation in the London Olympics itself, will lead on her juniors to do well in the future.

“If I cannot do well or win, a dream that I hope is for my participation to serve as an inspiration to my juniors and having opened the doors for many Naga sportsperson in the future,” she humbly said.
