Naga arrested for running sex trade in Bengaluru

One woman, reported to be a Naga, was arrested in Bangalore on January 3 allegedly on charges of sex trade. News reports quoting the Bengaluru City Police stated that the accused, a 29 year-old from Nagaland, was fronting a ‘spa and massage’ centre in the city to run the trade. 

As per a United News of India (UNI) report, the police raided a spa-cum-massage centre in the city on Thursday during which a Naga woman from Nagaland was arrested. Quoting the police, the report attributed the 29 year-old woman as “running the spa and massage parlour illegally.”

Three other women, whose ethnicity was not disclosed, were also “rescued,” the report said. 

The location of the raid was not disclosed with the report stating that a case was registered at the Thilaknagar Police Station of the city and investigation on. 

Asianetnews reported that the raid occurred in the Jayanagar area on Thursday night. The report quoted the Women and Narcotics wing, Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru City Police as conducting the raid based on information about “illegal activity at the massage parlour.”

The report quoted a CCB police officer as stating that “the (three) rescued girls” told the police that they were hired by the woman “to do facial massage and haircuts and later she pushed them into sex racket.”

It also stated that the rescued girls were in the custody of the state remand home for women. 

Efforts to contact the Bengaluru Police for comment on the case were not successful. Meanwhile, Naga organisations in Bengaluru when contacted by The Morung Express responded that they have not received any official inputs as regards the news of the arrest. 

Though it could not be officially confirmed, other sources stated that the arrested woman hailed from Nagaland.
