Naga Bloggers discuss the pros and cons of the Govt's Special Recruitment Drive for 10 E.A.C posts

Akhrie Angami:  The general misconception of many Naga people is that Govt jobs will create a better life for the economically backward people. That’s the kind of idea which in fact has given rise to corruption, nepotism, laziness and giving more authority to the govt officers than it should. Govt duty is to look after the welfare of the public irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Isn't it discrimination to the general tribes that the BT are offered this 10 post? Whether we get independence or united or not, we will still looking for means and ways to earn our livelihood and unemployment issue is much bigger than all those issues you have listed. Don’t forget the Middle East revolution started with unemployment and even the London riots too. This particular issue may even topple our govt, if not handled carefully.

Kvulo Lorin: I think most of the government positions are being held by members of the advanced tribes. It's usually the majority which pressures and bullies the minorities and not the other way around. I think the government is trying to stop the voices clamouring for a separate state. But of course we never know.
I guess generations of nepotism and backdoor appointments are finally taking their toll and not many have faith that the most deserving candidate will secure a job honestly. When positions have been filled up by the most well connected rather than the most deserving candidate I guess the tribes with very few connections don't feel they have a fair chance. It is corruption and nepotism which have ultimately led us to this situation.

Alum Zeliang: Well, I don't want to join the debate but allow me to make a clarification and share my thoughts. The BTs should not be blamed for the policy maker’s short-sightedness. Not raising voice against the recruitment doesn’t mean that the BTs have fought for it. If tomorrow the UPA led Govt decides to recruit one IAS each from the Angamis, Aos, Semas and Lothas then I don’t think you will go shouting ‘No’ to the Govt. I admit that this special recruitment is flawed and not healthy for the Nagas as a whole, but it hurts when the BTs are blamed for this imbroglio.

Yan Fo Kikon: Class/Caste/backward/advanced tribe was a concept ALIEN to us Nagas. Indians practiced the caste system for centuries and finally when Nagaland became a part of India, they dumped their constitution into our land and introduced 'isms' and we fall into their tactics of divide and rule policy! Our policy makers are at the brink of separating us Nagas who lived as one without any class and caste system! Unless you see for yourself the standard of living in the ENPO areas, think twice before you VOICE out against their pleas for a separate statehood. Their voices have been suppressed for too long. But I hope their leaders consider alternate options of solving this issue rather than falling for the Divide and Rule policy. Why do we need to part our ways after all that we have been through together.

Hokato Zhimomi: Instead of just reservation, why don't the State Govt decentralize power to all the districts? The budget the state gets from the centre should be divided up among the districts and handed over to the district implementing agencies. Agencies should be set up in the districts to make sure that the funds are judiciously used. This way no one can complain but only blame themselves for their lack of development. The budget handed to the districts should done in a transparent manner and the expenditure of it likewise.
The funds are doing the vanishing act in the capital.

CP Noklang: I am one among many aspirants who applied for this post without knowing that there would be some section of Naga brothers & sisters who will oppose this special recruitment drive. I apologise and humbly withdraw from appearing for screening and it is my prayer that many comrades, friends, aspirants who have applied for the said recruitment may also do the same like me as a mark of respect, love and cooperation for unfair and partial policy of the government  towards other Naga tribes. If we give love and respect to the feeling of others, then only others will love and respect us in times of need.

K Wapong Longkumer: Kvulo Lorin, I am wit you regarding that mysterious hand trying to create enmity among us brothers so that the solution is disrupted. History is full of coincidences that are actually not.
Personally, if the GON still thinks reservation is necessary then they can continue to do so but am against the current 10 EAC post. Very short sighted decision and it’s polarizing an already sticky issue. Moreover this will be a precedent for future similar decisions.
Here's the interesting part. What is it they thought they were making the right decision, surely they must have sent some feelers to the leaders of the BTs and got some positive feedback. Or it must have been the other way round and so the govt thought. Keep them happy, no statehood demand = Interim Govt and no more reservation problem. Bad calculation or badly manipulated.
