DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): Consequent upon the heinous gangrape incident dated 7/2/2012 at East Burma Camp perpetrated on a Naga wife by atleast 4 Miya miscreants, an emergency meeting was held at Naga Council office by executive members of Naga Council, Dimapur Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur GB Union, Chakhesang Hoho (CHDD Parent body, Women & Youth Units) in the office of Naga Council at 11 AM. Prior to finalizing strategies to battle recurring rape menace, the following decisions were taken pending a larger public meeting.
According to a press note issued by the Naga Council, the meeting vehemently condemned what it described as “the beastly act by the Miya miscreants which is beyond comprehension” and demanded severest punishment failing which a suitable course of action to be decided by public.
It was also informed that a larger public meeting shall be convened on 10th February, 2012 at 11 AM in the office of Naga council to thoroughly “discuss the despicable trend of rape and antisocial acts, its penalty and related issues considering the hard fact that till date, neither tangible results is seen nor is there subsidence of such acts in the society”.
The following organizations have also been requested to send their competent authorities/representatives to participate and deliberate/frame public strategy to eradicate and scale down such incidents in future. This include the Naga Council Councillors, DNWH, GB Union Dimapur, DDGBA, all Dimapur town based Tribal Hohos, Student Union, Citizens Forum, WSH, CPO (Chakhroma), NGOs, various village & colony Chairmen/Secretary of Dimapur, Zeliang Baudi, NPMHR, etc.
The Naga Council press note informed that no separate notice will be issued due to shortage of time. Hence, all are requested to treat this information as official.
