Dimapur, July 20 (MExN): Akumienla Limanungsang Imchen from Nagaland has won a Bronze Medal during the 8th South Asian Karate Championship 2024 held at the Royal Institute of Management, Thimphu from July 13-20 in the Senior Female Kumite.
The All Nagaland Karate-Do Association (ANKA) General Secretary Temsu Nungsang Sangtam, in a press release said that Akumienla “is the first in the Karate History of Nagaland to represent India” to win a bronze in the South Asian Karate Championship.
She was selected to represent India by the National Federation of Karate. The Championship was organised by the South Asian Karate Federation, hosted by the Bhutan Karate Association and supported by the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
She is a Senior Karate of ANKA under the Logdrum Higher Secondary School Dojo, Sangtamtilla, Dimapur under the Chief Instructorship of Sensei Temsu Sangtam as the Chief Instructor of the dojo. She is presently working as Rifle Women in the IRB 15th NAP Mahila Battalion. She is the daughter of Limanungsang Imchen and Achala Tzuder of Landmark Colony, Dimapur.
“As she is participating for the first time in an Official International Championship,” the release said she was accompanied by the Chief of International Shito Ryu Karate Federation, India Kyoshi Mutum Bankim Singh and Renshi Soibam Bindeshori Chanu, Technical Secretary of ISKF-INDIA as Female Official.
“Today the All Nagaland Karate Do Association led by Kyoshi T Sangtam as President, Sensei Lanu Imchen as Working President, Shihan Thsathriba Sangtam, Technical Director, Sensei Rongsen Vice President, Shihan Dr Senliwati Logkumer, Sensei Kasheto and all officials and players expressed happiness and congratulate Akumienla for winning a medal in an official International Karate Championship for the first time in Karate history of Nagaland,” the association added.
The Association has also thanked the Nagaland DGP Robin Sharma and Commandant of 15th IR for their support and allowing her to take part in all the Karate Championship for which she would bring Laurel for the state.
