Naga Hoho clarifies on Niathu meeting

Dimapur, January 5 (MExN): The Naga Hoho clarifies a news report in the local Media on January 5 about the ‘NSCN (IM) fielding candidates in the Manipur polls’ for which the Naga Hoho and other organizations were claimed to have sat in a meeting “to chalk out strategy for the elections in Manipur.”

The hoho noted the Media report that a consultative meeting was convened by the Naga Hoho at Niathu Resort in Dimapur on January 4 purportedly with “few civil societies”, Naga People’s Front leaders and leaders of the NSCN (IM).

The ‘hoho’ said in a note today, issued through its general secretary P Chuba Ozukum that the “meeting was convened to deliberate over the issues concerning Naga people, alternative arrangement for Nagas in Manipur and reconciliation and peace process.”

‘Neither NPF MLAs nor Mr VS Atem was present during the meeting as reported. Further, it is absolutely unjustified to claim that the meeting was held to chalk out the strategy for the elections in Manipur as the agenda is outside the perimeter of Naga Hoho,” the apex Naga organization clarified.

The Naga Hoho has requested the Media community not to publish any news item “without authenticating the factual story in future in order to avoid commotion and tarnishing the image of the person or organisations concerned.”
