Naga Hoho reacts to Governor’s Statehood Day message

Kohima, December 2 (MExN): The Naga Hoho on Wednesday expressed shock at the Nagaland Governor and Interlocutor RN Ravi’s statement on the eve of the 58th Statehood Day of Nagaland.

It took a strong exception to the message, which it said seemed “to have been glorifying the controversial Naga Peoples’ Convention (NPC) and the creation of controversial statehood. The Naga Hoho asserted that it cannot support such a statement and condemned the same.

The Naga Hoho further stated that it was of the notion that the Governor was unlike other interlocutors and had great hope that during his tenure something could be worked out. “We never expected such antagonistic statement from a brilliant, intelligent and self respecting Interlocutor who is supposed to be a harbinger of peace,” it added.

The Naga Hoho further questioned the Governor as to what prompted him to “take keen interest” on the 16 point Charter of Demands “after 57 years of statehood when Government of India and Naga negotiators are trying to resolve above 16 point resolution,” adding that no Governor in the past has resuscitated the 16 Point Charter of Demands.

Regarding the claims of the Indo-Naga political talks having concluded on October 31,2019, the Naga Hoho questioned why the Government of India directed Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials to engage in the talks.

It stressed that “heart of Nagaland beats in its villages where plebiscite was conducted in 1951.” “No doubt, The Indian National Flag and Constitution are the pride of the people of India, so also Nagas do have our own flag and constitution,” the Naga Hoho stated.
