Naga party decides to join Manipur poll fray

DIMAPUR, OCT 18 (MExN): In view of the incapability of running a people’s government and failure to address the insurgency problems in the right direction particularly Naga issue and its corrupt practices, the Naga National Party (NNP) has decided to participate in the upcoming 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly election 2007 and placed its manifesto before the people of Manipur particularly for Nagas for serious consideration and support.

The NNP manifesto includes: to seek emotional integration among all Nagas, to support the on-going GOI-NSCN (IM) peace process, to pursue the declaration the Naga Hoho for unification/ integration of all the contiguous Naga areas and live under one political administrative unit, to extend the Indo-Naga cease-fire to all the contiguous Naga areas, to cease fratricidal killing among the Nagas factions/groups and bring unification through reconciliation, to maintain Naga identity in  letter and in spirit and to repeal AFSPA, among others.

The poll manifesto also talks of creating a Deputy Chief Minister post to look over the affairs entirely for the hills administration separately. The NNP further appealed not to vote for the following parties: opposing Naga issue and interest, likely to sabotage the on-going Indo-Naga peace process, likely to create more disunity amongst people particularly Nagas, opposing Indo-Naga cease-fire extension to all Naga areas and ‘unnecessarily’ opposing Naga integration. The NNP seeks to launch its agenda by way of a mass Naga non-violent movement for early peaceful and honorable Naga solution.
