Dimapur: The talks between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM began today at Amsterdam. The crucial negotiation comes in the backdrop of the present ceasefire expiring on July 31. According to sources the NSCN (IM) delegation comprises of its Chairman Isak Chishi Swu, General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah, a top leader Angelus Shimrah and Ninghor Raikham, secretary, NSCN-IM.

The latest round of talks is expected to be ‘tough’, according to sources.

The Naga outfit while reiterating that the objective of the ceasefire was to garner peace nonetheless cautioned that they were not ‘interested’ in the talks if the dialogue do not present a means towards a solution. Reiterating that the core issue of integration of contiguous Naga-inhabited areas had to be addressed by the Government of India seriously, the sources further reaffirmed that “there could be no solution without integration.”

On the refusal of the Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh governments to part with ‘even an inch of their territory’, an NSCN leader said, “If you look through somebody else’s looking-glass a clear picture will not emerge.”

The leader further disclosed that a solution was close at hand if Delhi was ready and willing to solve the vexed Naga issue.
He further stressed that that the peace talks were only a means to an end and that it was pointless to continue with the talks if these sessions do not yield any positive results.
