Naga Students in cities partying or studying?

Jeremiah Pame: Dear Naga brothers and sisters studying in Delhi, once my senior professor said to me "Most of the northeastern students are not serious in studies. They don’t come to class. But they are very good human beings. Please tell them to be serious and they will do something great." So what should I tell her? Let us try to be more serious this year. Let others think that Nagas are capable of doing great things in life. God be with you all the students. I believe the Naga Blog is a very good platform to discuss and encourage one another

Theja Kire: Aaaaareeee!!! SOME are Just Killing their Parents. Here their parents are thinking that my son/daughter is studying in abroad, hoping they will be somebody someday. While out there the son/daughter is partying LIKE HELL with their parents money. Now what can we expect more?

Thungchanpeni Patton: I think the students leaders and elders living out there should take the initiative and arrange meetings/get together /organize seminars at least once in a month to discuss among themselves and share their views and opinions and sort out their problems!

Thohe Pou: I was no that good in theory but I was quite sincere in practical subject and because of this, one of my professors in DU asked me, ''Are you not from the Northeast India?''  I said, I am and then I asked her why? She replied, 'In my 10 years teaching Geography practical I have not seen any NE student completing practical file on time.'' Our people have very good brain but seriously most of us are lazy or insincere with our studies.

Amen Longchar: I was even told that most of them drinks and so become useless in their studies/research. I felt very bad to hear this because there are also good and sincere students but sadly it's so true.

Yanpvuo Kikon: The NSF, ENSF and other student bodies should tie up with the Students Unions in all the cities and start a Naga Students Assessment Program, which will ensure that every Naga student is registered with information of where they are studying and which year. The body will send a yearly report to the NSF and the parents giving details of the student’s attendance, result etc. Unless steps like this are taken, the parents back home are completely oblivious to what their children are doing in the cities! Every parent who sends their child outside to study would pay a minimal fee to the body to cover their fuel expenses, mailing photo copies of the report cards, attendence reports and running around from college to college to get the details of our students. I am sure the colleges and universities would also welcome this idea to ensure that the lakhs of rupees that parents in Nagaland spend on educating the younger generation don't go to waste. Hope this suggestion is passed on to the respective unions and a proposal in forming such a body is implemented.

Korean Freak Show or Naga Traditional Attire?

Dziitakhrie Pethanilie: "Be a Naga, dress like a Naga, you copy cat Korean freak show". Now what’s that suppose to mean? I am not much of a korean fan but I do like good clothes with nice designs. Like there are people for whom Koreanisation in Nagaland is just undigestible to them and comments,"Where is your culture? Be a pure naga". Do they mean traditional dress? Even Koreans have their own traditional dresses which they wear during specific occasions. It is Westernisation which is more dangerous then Koreanisation. One comes with bikini another comes with full clothing, choose one!

Samuel Vio: Maybe it's just a passing fad. Teenage angst, peer pressure, etc. Let's be a little kinder. They'll outgrow it, just like we did bell-bottoms.

Alem Penshy: No matter whom we imitate, at the end of the day we fall back to our culture and tradition: food, langauge, etc.
Even our forefathers imitated the Britishers and that’s how we started dressing up like the Britishers in the first place.
I am sure none of us would like to dress up in our traditional attire and walk around the city?

We should learn to take best of every culture. Looking at the Japanese & Koreans, they took Western fashion and made it their own. Every Generation has a passing phase of fashion sense - Our Older brothers wore TORN JEANS and our parents wore big BELL BOTTOM pants with long dirty hair-do!! Now these Hippie, Guns and Roses/Metal/PunK season has given way to Koreanization! Whatever influences our fashion era, those pointing their fingers should also look at themselves first and see how far they have drifted away from our roots. Even if you sport a Prada or Gucci, you become Nada if you don't sport the intellect!

Shanna Noelle: We shouldn’t judge as long as the other person feels good and is comfortable wearing what he or she wants to then that’s fine! Seen a lot of people wearing weird stuff but so what? Who am I to judge? I love my traditional wear, but I don’t think its practical for me to be working or walking around the street wearing it! Its totally upto the individual to decide what he/she wants to wear all those people who love to pass comments on how people dress, calls them "Korean freak shows" should either zip it or stop wearing or using any western wear or products!
