Naga villages receive eco-friendly menstrual solution

Thanamir, September 16 (MExN): Women in the remote border villages of Thanamir and Mimi in Nagaland received a life-changing gift this week — period panties, a reusable and eco-friendly menstrual hygiene product. The initiative was carried out on September 10 by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the Shamator-based NGO, Seeds of Grace Trust.

The effort was spearheaded by Colonel Archit Goswami, Commandant of Assam Rifles; his childhood friend Malay Mishra; and local changemaker A Kumrila, the founder of Seeds of Grace Trust.

“These women are my sisters and mothers. No woman should suffer silently because of geography. This is just the beginning,” Kumrila said, vowing to continue working for education, health, and livelihoods in Eastern Nagaland.

Unlike disposable pads, the provided period panties are reusable for up to three years, offering a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution for border communities with limited access to resources and fragile ecosystems.
