Naga woman conferred Mahatma Gandhi National Award 2020

Mumbai based Film Maker and Social Worker Rebecca Changkija Sema was conferred with the Mahatma Gandhi National Award 2020 during the 4th International Web Conference on Global Peace and award presentation ceremony on July 25 by the Mahatma Gandhi Global Peace Forum.

14 personalities from various parts of the country working in the field of Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood were conferred with the award.

The Mahatma Gandhi Global Peace Forum is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) to promote the culture of Peace around the world through arts, culture and education.

Member of Advisory Panel Member at Censor Board Mumbai and founder of Northeast Unsung Heroes, Rebecca Changkija Sema promotes tourism and talented youth from Northeast region through cinema and social work.

“Northeast Unsung Heroes is a nonprofit organization,” Rebecca said, adding that there are people from different walks of life, whose silent contributions have not been recognized.

“Once these heroes get recognition on the stage, they get better platform,” Rebecca said.

The journey started from Rebecca’s home town in Nagaland where the first Nagaland Unsung Heroes were recognized in 2018. It was followed by Sikkim Unsung Heroes in 2018.

In 2019, all the unsung heroes of the 8 NE states were recognized in the financial capital of India. 

Northeast Unsung Heroes Red Carpet Social Awards 2019 was held in Mumbai in the presence of Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) where 23 unsung heroes from NE were felicitated.

Earlier, celebrities like Mahima Chaudhary and Zeenat Aman have supported the initiative in Nagaland and Sikkim. “In 2020 we are coming up with digital platform,” Rebecca informed.

“It gives immense pleasure to know that our small felicitation bring changes in their life,” she added.
