11 bands have earned their “Ticket To Hornbill – State Edition” and will be representing their respective districts at the “The Great Hornbill Rock.”

The bands were selected after the 'Ticket to Hornbill' auditions held in all districts under the Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) in September.

The winners will perform along with the other national bands under one roof at the Hornbill Music Festival to be held in Dimapur in December. The national band will be selected after auditions in few selected cities of the country.

Taking to Twitter to announce the winners, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the government will continue “to strive in ensuring that stakeholders at grassroot have access to opportunities & provide platforms to showcase their talents.”

He also lauded the winner from each district.

In August this year, the Nagaland government decided to discontinue the popular Hornbill International Rock Contest held annually as a part of the Hornbill Music Festival.

There changes were part of the Government’s "all-inclusive policy" strategy by giving maximum platform and opportunity to local musicians.  Another aim is to make the Hornbill Music Festival into a full-fledged music festival.

In addition, the auditions for a first of its kind ‘Nagaland Choir Olympics' were also conducted across the state in September and respective district winners will compete at the grand finale slated at the Regional Centre for Excellence in Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma on October 23.
