The data was provided by Y Patton, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister in-charge of Home during the Question hour after MLAs Kuzholuzo Nienu and Dr. Imtiwapang Aier raised several questions on the Inner Line Permit.

On the steps taken by the Government to check the influx of ‘illegal immigrants,’ Patton replied that periodic checks are being done by the Administration and Police in the districts. “The State Government has in the past years set up Committees to suggest means to improve the ILP system and had even sent a team to nearby North East states where ILP is being implemented to study the system. More recently a Committee was set up to examine the reports of the previous Committees and recommend a more robust system for implementation of the Inner Line Permit,” said Patton.

Since January 2018, 505 ILP defaulters were caught by the Administration/Security in the ten districts of Nagaland. The district of Kiphire indicated Nil for detection of ILP defaulters. The maximum numbers of ILP defaulters were caught during the month of August this year (see box).
