Nagaland and Assam govts agree on joint measures in Disputed Area Belt

Kohima, August 21 (MExN): The governments of Nagaland and Assam have undertaken a joint eviction drive to remove illegal immigrants from the Disputed Area Belt (DAB), an official communiqué from the office of the Chief Secretary, Nagaland, said on Thursday.

The statement, issued on August 21, said that the eviction was carried out as part of measures to address long-standing issues in the border region. Following the eviction, plantation activities carried out in the area by Assam led to tensions between the two neighbouring states.

In order to resolve the matter, the communiqué said that the Chief Ministers of Nagaland and Assam held discussions and agreed that henceforth, all activities in the DAB, including plantation, will be undertaken jointly by the two states.

“This joint decision reflects the commitment of both governments to maintaining peace and cooperation in the border areas,” the communiqué stated.
