Kohima, August 31 (MExN): Nagaland Agriculture Production Commissioner, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS along with officials from the World Bank and the line departments visited Boke-Botsa project on Naga Integrated Settled Farming (NISF) under Enhancing Landscape and Eco-system Management Project (ELEMENT) on August 31, stated a DIPR report.
The World Bank officials had an intensive interaction with the farmers implementing NISF, where the farms are being cultivated along with other income generating activities like piggery, fish farming and sericulture etc. with catchment area at the top, provided with 50,000 litre capacity water tank for off season cultivation of vegetables, facilitating double cropping which will promote settled cultivation, thus conserving and managing the Eco-system.
The team also visited Jhum fields at Pheshunyu and Phentejon village under Tseminyu district and interacted with the jhum farmers and also obtained firsthand knowledge about the crops grown in the field and other aspects of jhum farming, which was in contrast to the area implementing NISF.
The officials further discussed about the need for proper land use plan and rejuvenation of the jhum Eco-system. The team also visited Forest Nursery managed by department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change under JICA project and Vegetable Polyhouse Nursery managed by NEIDA and funded by Department of Biotechnology under the ministry of Science and Technology at Terogvunyu under Tseminyu district.
