Nagaland approves fund transfers to registered construction workers

Kohima, June 21 (MExN): The Government of Nagaland has approved for transfer of Rs. 2,000 each to the bank accounts of all the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) registered under the State Labour Department.

According a DIPR report, while the State Labour Department has registration of 30,797 BOCW beneficiaries till date, it would be able to able to transfer the approved benefit only to those whose bank accounts are active. 

In this connection, the department has requested all the beneficiaries with temporarily dormant bank account, to immediately activate such accounts to help the department in making seamless transaction of the benefit, it said. 

The department has worked out all technical details of the beneficiaries and transfers of the benefits have started successfully through Direct Benefit Transfer or DBT, it informed. 

The amount will be debited from the Cess Fund, it added.  

Huge displacement of daily wage workers
Meanwhile, due to present pandemic situation and the continuing lockdown, the department has been informed of huge displacement of daily wage workers, especially the construction workers, is taking place all over the country, the report said. 

This has led to loss of earning for the workers causing extreme hardship to the workers and their families as these workers usually sustain their livelihood on daily wage, it said.  

In order to assist such workers and their families, the Central Government had desired that the respective Governments of the States and Union Territories provide adequate financial assistance to such identified category of workers, it added. 

The Government of Nagaland’s approval came following the centre’s expression, it added.
