Kohima, May 28 (MExN): Nagaland Archery Association (NAA) conducted a felicitation programme for the archers who won medals at Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav North East Sports Festival 2022 and 1st Khelo India Archery Tournament NE held at Imphal from April 27 to May 3.
NAA President, Neiphrezo Keditsu congratulated the archers and coaches for bringing laurels to the state. He sought further support from the department of Youth Resource and Sports in the future. The results that they showed by winning medals are a testament to their potential to become a leader in their own field, he said and urged archers to participate at the national and international levels.
NOA Joint Secretary, Kuputo Shohe said that Nagas are talented in sports but the lack of infrastructure kept players behind. But with the spirit of sportsmanship burning, we are second to none.
NWA Advisor, Neivikuolie Nicholas Khatsu, said that archery by nature is a clean sport. He was of the opinion that archery needs mental toughness besides physical balance. He encouraged them to discipline and dedicate themselves, “If you are good at your own discipline, opportunities will come knocking. He also informed that the department is working hard to bring about sports policy, a system where it is legislated by the assembly.”
The total medal tally from both the competitions was 27 including four gold, two silvers, and 21 bronze medals. A total of seven medals in the 1st Khelo India Archery Tournament NE and 20 medals were won under AKAM NE Sports Fest 2022.
A total of 16 archers and three officials/ coaches representing Nagaland state participated in the events.
