Nagaland Assembly officers get training in mental health, soft skills

Kohima, May 11 (MExN): A two-day training programme for officers of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat was conducted from May 8 to 9, focusing on enhancing professional capacity in mental well-being, soft skills and legislative drafting.

The training, initiated and conducted in partnership between INRIS INDIA Foundation and MIND India, was inaugurated by Khruohituonuo Rio, Secretary of Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Around 40 officers from the secretariat across all cadres participated in the programme, stated a press release. 

 

On the first day, resource persons from MIND India, Guwahati, led sessions on mental health and workplace skills. Dr Sangeeta Goswami, Counselling Psychologist and President of MIND India Guwahati, addressed mental well-being, stress management, and positive mental health practices for officers. Deepankar Bhattacharya, COO of Zemidi and Consultant to MIND India Guwahati, conducted sessions on soft skills covering communication, interpersonal effectiveness, and professional conduct in the legislative environment.

On the second day, Benjamin Newmai, Retired Commissioner & Secretary and Legal Consultant, delivered a session on legislative drafting, covering principles, processes, and best practices to strengthen officers’ technical proficiency in legislative work.

 

The training equipped officers with practical tools to manage workplace stress, maintain mental well-being in high-pressure legislative environments, strengthen soft skills including communication and team coordination, and enhance technical competence in legislative drafting for clarity, precision, and adherence to best practices in law-making processes.

The programme aimed to build both personal resilience and professional expertise essential for effective functioning within the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat.
