DIMAPUR, MAY 22 (MExN): Members of Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) from Nagaland, supported by the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board, participated in the celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) 2026 at the Indian Institute of Forest Management on May 22.
According to a press release issued by the NSBB, the BMCs from Nagaland took part in an exhibition organised on the sidelines of the event, where Self Help Groups (SHGs) from the state showcased biodiversity-based products at the stall allotted to the NSBB.
The Nagaland stall was visited by Mohan Yadav, Bhupender Yadav and Kirti Vardhan Singh.
The release stated that the dignitaries and officials of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change appreciated the enthusiasm shown by members of the BMCs from Nagaland in conserving biodiversity and local traditions.
The participating SHGs are being supported by the NSBB under the Forest and Biodiversity Management Project (FBMP), it added.
The exhibition and the commemorative event for IDB 2026 were jointly organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the National Biodiversity Authority. A pre-IBCA summit event on cheetah conservation was also organised on the sidelines of the celebration at Bhopal.
International Day for Biological Diversity is observed annually on May 22 to commemorate the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity during the Rio Earth Summit in 1992.
