Kohima, November 1 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Kohima Mohammed Ali Shihab A has informed all concerned that no campaign can be carried out in the period of 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for the close of poll.
The order was issued under Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. In addition, the Election Commission of India in a letter dated January 8, 2017 directed that no political functionaries/ party workers/procession functionaries/campaign functionaries etc from outside shall remain in the constituency. Individuals who are not voters of the constituency are also prohibited from remaining in the constituency after the campaign period is over.
Accordingly, the DC has informed all concerned to take note of the restrictions and ensure that no political functionaries/ party workers/ procession functionaries/ campaign functionaries etc. from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency shall remain in the constituency from 4:00 pm of November 1 till the election is over, a DIPR report informed.
Final briefing with sector officials
Meanwhile, on October 31 the DC&DEO Kohima had a final briefing with all the Sector Officers, Commanders, Nodal Officer (Health) and Sector Health Regulators in connection with the forthcoming bye-election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 14 Southern Angami -1(ST) Assembly Constituency.
In the meeting, General Observer for Bye-Election S K Pradhan encouraged the assigned polling officers to be well versed with the guidelines given by the ECI and called upon them to give their best efforts in their assigned duties for the peaceful and safe conduct of the bye-election.
The DC&DEO Kohima in his final briefing to the assigned officers reminded them to work together, share ideas and co-ordinate with each other in all aspects relating to election process.
Mentioning on the election motto ‘Free, fair, safe and peaceful election’, the DC urged them to perform their respective roles as per the guidelines given by the ECI and to ensure smooth conduct of the bye-election, the DIPR report said.
Superintendent of Police Kohima, Manoj Kumar gave a briefing on law and order and urged the poll officials to execute their duties as per the ECI guidelines.
ADC Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa and CMO Kohima, Dr Vezokholu also apprised the members on the present status of COVID-19 pandemic and the precautionary measures undertaken for the safe conduct of bye-election, the report said.
Besides, Sub-Divisional Officer (C) Jakhama and Returning Officer for bye-election, Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, all the Sector Officers and Sector Commanders, Nodal Officer(Health) and Sector Health Regulators attended the meeting.
Poll personnel cast postal ballots in Kohima
Kohima, November 1 (MExN): Officials and personnel who were drafted for election duty in the upcoming bye election to the 14 Southern Angami-I (ST) Assembly Constituency casted their votes through postal ballots at DPDB Conference Hall, Deputy Commissioner's Office Complex, Kohima on October 31. General Observer for Bye-Election, S K Pradhan and DC & DEO Kohima, Mohammed Ali Shihab A along with election agent/representatives from the party of National Democratic Progressive Party, (NDPP), Naga People Front (NPF) and Independent (IND) witnessed the facilitation process.
