Nagaland CAWD & Taxes Advisor Kudecho Khamo on Monday urged Gaon Buras (GBs) to serve society with courage, integrity and dignity. He was addressing the general meeting of the Chokri Area GB’s Union (CAGBU) held at CAPO Hall, Rihuba under Phek district.

Khamo highlighted the evolution of village administration and said GBs have assumed a dignified role carrying immense respect and responsibility in society. He said the red coat worn by GBs distinguishes them as custodians of the community with responsibilities over social affairs and public welfare.

Describing GBs as guardians and protectors of the clan, khel and society, he urged them to uphold their office with honesty and integrity. He further called upon them to serve society with courage and boldness while safeguarding the interests of the people.

Khamo also stressed the need to respect and honour GBs as custodians of values and traditions, adding that their role remains vital for the progress of society.

Sharing his vision for the development of the Chokri area, he asserted the need to bring the region at par with the rest of the state and sought cooperation and unity from the people to further development initiatives.

Expressing concern over the growing polarisation within Naga society, Khamo called for remaining grounded in rich traditions and heritage. He urged GBs to introspect and examine the condition of society.

He said money alone is not the solution to every issue and stressed the need for rational thinking in socio-political matters alongside Christian values, honesty, courage and integrity.

Khamo further said Article 371(A), enshrined in the Constitution of India, provides special protection and privileges to Nagaland and should be upheld and strengthened.

Acknowledging the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who is also the president of the Naga People's Front, Khamo said the government is working for the welfare of the people and that the financial condition of the state is improving.

He called for public support to work together with the government in channelising development and investments in the region while emphasising the importance of stability, peace and development.

“As a people and as Nagas, we should resolve to work for the good of society,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vepozoyi Theyo, President of the Chokri Area Public Organisation (CAPO), said GBs are entrusted with lifelong responsibilities and urged them to care for and protect public properties.

He exhorted members to uphold justice with integrity and remain impartial irrespective of personal status or affiliation. He also stressed the importance of experienced leadership in carrying forward the responsibilities of GBs.

A speeeh was also delivered by Hünietsü Vero, Head GB of Pfutsero Town.

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Resamu Rhakho, Chairman of CAGBU, who acknowledged the cooperation extended by members and said the union has been working for the unity of the people.

The programme was led by Vethikho Ngoi, General Secretary of CAGBU. Invocation prayer was offered by Kuzhoto Kezo, Pastor of Rihuba Baptist Church, while vote of thanks was proposed by Vechosa Vero, Vice-Chairman of CAGBU. Benediction prayer was pronounced by Sekhota Thingo, Chairman of NPC Chokriba.
