New Delhi, June 10 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio along with his deputies TR Zeliang and Yanthungo Patton called on Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi on June 10.
In a post on X after the meeting, Dr Rio said the delegation discussed “key initiatives for the state’s development, resumption of petroleum exploration & production in the state” and appreciated the “constructive discussions” with the Minister.

Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, in a separate post on X, described the meeting as a “privilege” and said the discussions focused particularly on the “prospects of oil and natural gas exploration in Nagaland.” He thanked Puri for his “time, guidance, and continued support towards Nagaland’s development aspirations.”
The Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that the discussions focused on transforming the Northeast into a key pillar of India’s energy future.
“By unlocking its vast hydrocarbon potential, we are creating new opportunities for growth, investment and prosperity while strengthening the nation’s energy security under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi,” Puri posted on his X account.
The meeting assumes significance as oil exploration in Nagaland has remained stalled for years due to various operational, security and landowner-related issues.
