
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 12 (MExN): Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, S Toiho Yeptho, along with the Secretary-in-Charge and an accompanying official from the NLA Secretariat, is attending the 11th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region Conference at Bengaluru, Karnataka, from September 11 to 13.
The conference was inaugurated in the presence of senior dignitaries including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah; Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha; Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council; Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly; Presiding Officers comprising Chairpersons and Speakers of State and Union Territory legislatures; as well as the Secretaries-General of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and Secretaries from legislatures across the country.
The inaugural was marked by the arrival of the Lok Sabha Speaker and members of the CPA India Region Executive Committee, who were accorded a guard of honour.
CPA India Region Executive Committee include Om Birla, Speaker, Lok Sabha – Ex-Officio Chairperson; and members -Vasudev Devnani, Speaker, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly; Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly; Biswajit Daimary, Speaker, Assam Legislative Assembly; Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, Speaker, Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly; Satish Mahana, Speaker, Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly; Rahul Narwekar, Speaker, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly; D. Purandeswari, MP (Lok Sabha), Chairperson, Steering Committee of CWP of CPA India Region; Utpal Kumar Singh, Secretary General, Lok Sabha – Regional Secretary.
India became the 9th region of the CPA on September 7, 2004, following the adoption of a resolution by the CPA General Assembly in Toronto, Canada. Presently, all 31 State and Union Territory branches in the country are covered under the association.
