
NOKLAK/Longleng, JANUARY 22 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and the Phom Peoples' Council (PPC) have joined other apex organisations from the Eastern Nagaland in reaffirming the ENPO’s August 26, 2022 resolution to abstain from upcoming State election till the demand for a separate state of Frontier Nagaland is fulfilled.
The Nagaland Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to be held on February 27.
In this connection, the two organisations also issued directives to their community members against participation in electioneering.
According to the KTC release, it resolved and re-affirmed to fully support to the ENPO resolution to abstain during a joint consultative meeting of the council with all the frontal organisations and village councils at Noklak Headquarter on January 13.
The council has further directed that no individual/candidate will file nomination under Khiamniungan jurisdiction and declared that the council will not be “responsible for the event of any circumstances” if any individual(s) fails “to abide” with the directives.
The KTC has fully endorsed and empowered the Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU), Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH), Village Councils, Noklak Town Sectors Union and Village Public Organisations to fully implement and act upon the directives, it added in the release.
Meanwhile, it was decided during an emergency meeting of the PPC in Longleng on January 31.
During the meeting, the house resolved and reiterated to remain steadfast and firm to ENPO Resolution to abstain from taking part in the upcoming 2023 General Election until the GoI India grant the demand for a ‘separate statehood befittingly,’ the PPC stated in a release.
It further resolved to “permanently expel those individual(s) filing nomination to participate in the upcoming NLA election 2023 from the Phom land and that, the respective village of the person filing nomination shall be held solely responsible,” it said.
The PPC has also fully endorsed the respective village councils, Phom Students' Conference and its federating units and Phomla Hoichem to fully implement and act upon the resolution, it added.
