Nagaland State Excise Department led the observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Nagaland state Commissioner of Excise & Prohibition, H Atokhe Aye, NCS said “all the Excise enforcement personnel once again reiterated the commitment with a pledge to work towards supply reduction –‘strengthen prevention’ effectively.”
In a press release, Aye stated that the Nagaland State Excise Department under the aegis of UNODC theme ‘People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention’ carried out the awareness campaign for the citizens and students of the state.
A poster campaign was organised in all the district headquarters of the state with the message for abstinence and ill effects of drug abuse and the various penalties under the NDPS Act 1985.
Seeing the need for awareness among the youths, the department reached out to the students in various schools in Dimapur and made a presentation of the drugs abuse scenario and penalties with a special emphasis on ‘Sunflower’ (Heroin).
In the first phase of the drug awareness campaign, the Excise department has covered Hollotoli School, Christian HSS, Holy Cross HSS, Dimapur Mission HSS, Don Bosco HSS, Cornerstone HSS & College, St Stephen’s HSS, and The Maple Tree.
