Nagaland finishes 1st runners-up at ASMITA Khelo India Pencak Silat League

Haul 9 medals, including 3 gold

Dimapur, March 29 (MExN): Nagaland secured the overall 1st runners-up position at the ASMITA Khelo India Senior National Pencak Silat League 2026, winning a total of nine medals—three gold, one silver, and five bronze.

The championship was held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre, NEHU Campus, Shillong, Meghalaya, on March 26 and 27, with participation from 25 states and one Union Territory.

In the sparring division, Liike Kibami, Niya K Thono, and Avikali V Sheqi won gold medals, while Tina Thapa secured silver and Illy Swu and Diana claimed bronze.

Kibami emerged as a multiple medallist, adding a bronze in Creative Solo in the artistic category. She also featured in the bronze-winning Pair Composed Combat event alongside Thapa, and was part of the trio with Thono and Sheqi that secured another bronze in the Team event.

The championship was conducted under ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action), a women-centric sports initiative under the Khelo India Mission, supported by the Sports Authority of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It was hosted by the Meghalaya Pencak Silat Association under the supervision of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation.

The event was attended by Wailadmiki Shylla, Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, in the presence of John F Kharshiing, Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association, and Md Iqbal, CEO of the Indian Pencak Silat Federation, along with other dignitaries.

The performance highlights the growing participation and achievements of women athletes from Nagaland in national-level competitions, informed a press release from the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association (NPSA).
